Blame….Jesus?

The language we use is important

Is this where we’re at with the Christian music industry? Writing a song with the title ‘Blame Jesus?’ Whose idea was this?

Let’s say I give this songwriter (Drew Parker) the benefit of the doubt and that he is using the phrase creatively. It doesn’t impress on me a posture of gratitude. It comes across as feeling like that the believer feels it some kind of burden, some imposition, that one was changed by God.

Is this what we want believers to feel when they meet Jesus? That it’s causing some kind of negative feelings? Like…. Oh, I can’t do all these things anymore, don’t blame me, blame Jesus?

That is not the posture of someone who is saved. That sounds like a person who resents not being able to be the person who they were before they met Jesus.

Am I missing something? Also, makes me a little sad that Steven Curtis Chapman of all people would put his name on a song with this position.

We should be thanking Jesus. Not blaming him.

Thank Jesus, thank the cross

Thank the blood that washed it all

Thank mercy, thank the scars

Thank the Saviour who changed my heart

Thank the stone that rolled away

Thank that sweet amazing grace

If you’re wondering why I can’t be who I was?

Thank Jesus.
