30 Day Blogging Challenge – Day 13

A date you would love to go on

Hmmm, a date I would love to go on?  That’s a tough one, because I think my idea of dating is a little different to what society frames dating as.  Dating to me is just spending time with the man I love so I can get to know him more.

But, if I could choose something special?  Going out together to something we both enjoy, like the footy or theatre…

Oh, wait…we’re doing that twice next week!

There you go.  There’s my answer.

Another short one, but I’ve got Anzac Day on the brain right now.  So, let me take you on a tangent for a moment, since I’ve mentioned the footy.

Collingwood beating Essendon today made me somewhat emotional.  Perhaps it’s just the flow on effect of the Dawn Service and the added atmosphere of the ceremony at the ground, but it really moved me today.

I don’t think I’ve ever been as vocal whilst watching my boys play on TV.  Not in some time at least.  And the number of first timers and young players…and Cloke’s two goals from set shots.  Take that haters!

I cannot wait for the game next Friday.  Bring on the Blue-baggers.  We can take them on.  I’m cautiously optimistic.  Gosh…I’m going to be at the G for the second time [and then a third] in my life.  Can not wait.

COLLINGWOOD PREMIERS 2010

And so today was the day the Pies became Premiers after twenty years.

I was so nervous this morning, I almost felt sick.  Ironically I now have cramps, but I can curse the fact that I’m a woman, for that.

Anyway, back to the Grand Final replay.  I must say, aside from the actual Grand Final, I’ve never been so excited, nervous and amp’ed up over a football game.  I vow to remain excited about Collingwood for a long time to come, though.

They’re my team, and I am immensely proud.  I still remember the 2002/2003 schemozzles against Brisbane Lions.  We lived in Townsville, then.  The first time round, ’02, we were at home to watch the game, and Mum and I spent a week making a Go Magpies banner, which we hung up on the balcony for all to see.

That didn’t help… then the second time round, ’03, we were in Darwin, and Brisbane were flogging them before half time.  So, we went for a walk, and Mum said someone could’ve shot a gun down the middle of the main street because everyone was inside watching the game.

Devastation both times and not since 1990 had the Pies won the flag.  And I have to say I don’t remember that last time because I was not quite 5.

Now though, nine days before my 25th birthday, I have to say the Pies have given me the best early birthday present, yet.

They won the replay 16. 12. 108 to the Saints 7. 10. 52.

The Saints put up a good fight, but Collingwood were just all over them ‘like a rash’ as my dad likes to say.

Pendlebury got the Norm Smith Medal this week.  [Lenny Hayes got it on the actual Grand Final day].  But I think Thomas could’ve got it just as easily.  He was everywhere, so were a lot of other players.

This game has to be the best for me personally.

And as it said in the song:

The Premiership WAS a cakewalk for the good old Collingwood.

Grand Final Fizzer – Draw? What next…

So, it was meant to be the big one today. But guess what? It was a draw, so guess what, again? Instead of going to overtime, which would be the sensible thing to do, the AFL have decided to play another game…

NEXT WEEK! Ugh…

Seriously, stupidest rule ever. I mean apparently only three times [including this time] has a Grand Final ever ended in a draw. It’s just stupid. Even the coaches think it should be decided by overtime.

I guess some bonuses will be that now the Pies can focus on improving on the areas that let them down…*cough*Travis’kickingskills*cough* and come out fighting. Also they’ve been through the fire once they’re sure to be much better placed next week.

But, damn, I don’t think I’ve gotten so emotional over the sport in a long time. I was crying when it was over. Actually I was crying when the Saints were 1 point ahead. That just about killed me.

Anyway, I’m feeling better after that mini-rant…

Hung parliament and hung AFL grand final. What is going on Australia?
