Week almost done…

  1. I bought a new laptop today.  I’m in the middle of configuring it and organising software on it.  It’s nice and shiny and new…
  2. We made spring rolls at work today.  The kids really enjoyed them.  There were a couple who didn’t eat many, but the majority really liked them.  We used puff pastry this time, but I think next time we should buy the spring roll pastry and tray that.
  3. I’ve started another Bible unit at TTC.  It’s all about Christianity and what The Bible says about it.  We’ve looked at some interesting topics [doctrines] already and the sub-topics within.  For example the Trinity and the whole issue of God being One but existing as Three Persons.
  4. This is just a random post because it’s been awhile since I last blogged.
  5. Live life to the fullest, live life for God.  Live.

Been awhile…

Work at STAWA has gotten a little quiet.  Part of me is a little bit over working there.  Don’t get me wrong, I like working at STAWA, I’m just in a personal funk.  I’ve just been feeling blah about a lot of things.  I think it’s partly because I’m not feeling motivated to do anything lately.  Work, writing, hanging out with friends…I just want to crawl into bed and sleep…and I’m not even tired or anything.  I’ve had a few off nights, but I’ve been sleeping well lately, so it’s not that.

I’m loving working at Kids Inn.  Maybe that’s it.  I need to rethink my position in the workforce.  Perhaps I should go fulltime into childcare?  I don’t know.  I really like working where I’m at right now.  The kids are great, even though some of them can be right little so-and-so’s sometimes.  But, I really, really enjoy working there, nonetheless.

Guess what?  I’m going to Soundwave next year.  And guess what else?  Avenged Sevenfold will be there.  Seeing them live will definitely make my life.  I have to say, seeing them live will most likely trump seeing Simple Plan.

The bittersweet thing, though, is that I won’t ever get to see Jimmy ‘The Rev’ play with them.  I’m sure Mike Portnoy will do the drummer justice, but I can’t help but feel gypped that I never got the chance to see A7X as the full band.

It will be an experience, though.  My first major music festival.  I never was ever interested in the Big Day Out, or Southbound or any of those others.  The bands didn’t really excite me.  I would like to see Eskimo Joe and The Living End, though.

I think I’ve used the word ‘though’ a lot in this blog… oh well.  My writing has improved since I first started back in…um…probably 2000 or even before then.  I started writing semi-serious fics back in 1999, even though [there I go again with that word…] it was kind of silly stories about my crush…and talking animals and stuff.  [Stuff is a good scientific term.  And ‘thing’ is as well…]  But, I can tell you I have definitely gotten better, and that’s not boasting.  I can see the improvement.

I have so many ideas floating around in my mind, but none of them I can really pin down.  My latest venture is exciting, though.

It’s called Shadows Creed, and is a fanfic [A7X], but the premise is so different, to me at least, that I reckon I could write it as an original.

The basic gist is this:  Bands are outlawed.  Politicians are using solo artists to garner popularity.  The law is upheld by The Creed.  The Creed is a force responsible for eliminating renegade musicians.  One man decides it’s time for a change.  Time to crush the oppression and bring rock and roll back into the world.  There is one problem.  This one man is The Creed’s most trusted.

So, there it is.  Of course, the story I’m writing now is based around the guys in Avenged, but I could so easily modify it to use my original characters.  But, I will probably endeavour to work on the idea later on in the year.

I also want to try and write an all Aussie based fic.  But, we’ll see.

Anyways, signing off, g’night all.

Tomorrow When The War Began

I have to say it.

John Marsden revolutionised teen novels.  Tomorrow When the War Began has to have been the best book I ever read in high school.  The whole series is amazing.  A strong female narrator, a teenager no less.  Great characters, real, young, feisty, fun, serious, and an amazing notion.  What if Australia was invaded?

What would you do?

The books kept me riveted, I couldn’t put them down.  I can’t count the number of times I read and re-read the first three books.

What intrigued me was the fact that the main character was a female, considering John Marsden is a guy.

The character Homer Yannos must be my first literary crush.  I always had a thing for him lol.

And now comes the main point of this.

I went and saw the movie and I have to say out of all the book-to-movie adaptations TWTWB is the best of the lot that I’ve seen.

They stayed true to the book, changing only minor details [giving the kids webcams, laptops, mobile phones and changing one scene having Chris and Robyn involved with the blowing up of Cobblers, but it kind of fit with the dynamics so I didn’t mind that so much – oh and Flip wasn’t a basset hound…lol].

I cried when Corrie got shot…even though I knew it was going to happen.

There was some priceless clips as well, like Kevin’s face while Chris was talking about finding out what was going on.  Chris the way they characterised him was absolutely hilarious.

I could go on, but I’d be gushing.  Overall an amazing effort.  Some of the acting wasn’t perfect, but I think for all of them it was the first time doing a major motion picture.  And it was a perfect feel.

I loved Deniz as Homer, even though he wasn’t exactly how I pictured him in the books.  Too good looking.  But, hey, it’s a movie.  Literary license, eh?

The soundtrack was good.  Steer by Missy Higgins was a good opening track.

So overall, I give this movie two thumbs up.  😀  And a great big smile.  I’d definitely watch it again :D.

COLLINGWOOD PREMIERS 2010

And so today was the day the Pies became Premiers after twenty years.

I was so nervous this morning, I almost felt sick.  Ironically I now have cramps, but I can curse the fact that I’m a woman, for that.

Anyway, back to the Grand Final replay.  I must say, aside from the actual Grand Final, I’ve never been so excited, nervous and amp’ed up over a football game.  I vow to remain excited about Collingwood for a long time to come, though.

They’re my team, and I am immensely proud.  I still remember the 2002/2003 schemozzles against Brisbane Lions.  We lived in Townsville, then.  The first time round, ’02, we were at home to watch the game, and Mum and I spent a week making a Go Magpies banner, which we hung up on the balcony for all to see.

That didn’t help… then the second time round, ’03, we were in Darwin, and Brisbane were flogging them before half time.  So, we went for a walk, and Mum said someone could’ve shot a gun down the middle of the main street because everyone was inside watching the game.

Devastation both times and not since 1990 had the Pies won the flag.  And I have to say I don’t remember that last time because I was not quite 5.

Now though, nine days before my 25th birthday, I have to say the Pies have given me the best early birthday present, yet.

They won the replay 16. 12. 108 to the Saints 7. 10. 52.

The Saints put up a good fight, but Collingwood were just all over them ‘like a rash’ as my dad likes to say.

Pendlebury got the Norm Smith Medal this week.  [Lenny Hayes got it on the actual Grand Final day].  But I think Thomas could’ve got it just as easily.  He was everywhere, so were a lot of other players.

This game has to be the best for me personally.

And as it said in the song:

The Premiership WAS a cakewalk for the good old Collingwood.
