Email from Mum: Holy Humour

A father was approached by his small son who told him proudly, ‘I know what the Bible means!’
His father smiled and replied, ‘what do you mean, you ‘know’ what the
 Bible means?
The son replied, ‘I do know!’
‘Okay,’ said his father.  ‘What does the Bible mean?’
‘That’s easy, Daddy…’ the young boy replied excitedly,’ It stands for
‘Basic Information before Leaving Earth.’    (This one is my favorite.)
*
There was a very gracious lady who was mailing an old family Bible to her brother in another part of the country.
‘Is there anything breakable in here?’ asked the postal clerk. ‘Only the Ten Commandments.’ answered the lady.
*
‘Somebody has said there are only two kinds of people in the world. There are those who  wake up in the morning and say, ‘Good morning, Lord,’ and there  are those who wake up in the morning and say , ‘Good Lord, it’s  morning.’
*
A minister parked his car in a no-parking zone in a large city because he was short of time and couldn’t find a space with a meter.
Then he put a note under the windshield wiper that read: ‘I have circled the block 10 times. If I don’t park here, I’ll miss my appointment.  Forgive us our trespasses.’
When he returned, he found a citation from a police officer along with this note ‘I’ve circled this block for 10 years. If I don’t give you a ticket I’ll lose my job. Lead us not into temptation.’
 *
There is the story of a pastor who got up one Sunday and announced to his congregation: ‘I have good news and bad news. The good news is, we have enough money to pay for our new building program. The bad news is, it’s still out there in your pockets.’
*
While driving in Pennsylvania, a family caught up to an Amish carriage. The owner of the carriage obviously had a sense of humor, because attached to the back of  the carriage was a hand printed sign… ‘Energy efficient vehicle:  Runs on oats and grass. Caution: Do not step in exhaust.’
*
A Sunday School teacher began her lesson with a question, ‘Boys and girls, what  do we know about God?’
A hand shot up in the air. ‘He is an artist!’ said the kindergarten boy.
Really? How do you know?’ the teacher asked.
‘You know – Our Father, who does art in Heaven…  ‘
*
A minister waited in line to have his car filled with gas just before  a long holiday weekend. The attendant worked quickly, but there were many cars ahead of him.  Finally, the attendant motioned him toward a vacant pump.
‘Reverend,’ said the young man, ‘I’m so sorry about the delay. It seems as if everyone waits until the last minute to get ready for a long trip.’
The minister chuckled, ‘I know what you mean.  It’s the same in my business.’
*
People want the front of the bus, the back of the church, and the  center of  attention.
*
Sunday after church, a Mom asked her very young daughter what the lesson was about.
The daughter answered, ‘Don’t be scared, you’ll get your quilt.’
Needless to say, the Mom was perplexed.  Later in the day, the pastor stopped by for tea and the Mom asked him what that morning’s Sunday school lesson was about.
He said ‘Be not afraid, thy comforter is coming.’
*
The minister was preoccupied with thoughts of how he was going to ask the congregation to come up with more money than they were expecting for repairs to the church building. Therefore, he was annoyed to find that the regular organist was sick and a substitute had been brought in at the last minute.
The substitute wanted to know what to play.
‘Here’s a copy of the service,’ he said impatiently. ‘But, you’ll have to think of something to play after I make the announcement about the finances.’
During the service, the minister paused and said, ‘Brothers and Sisters, we are in great difficulty; the roof repairs cost twice as much as we expected and we need $4,000 more.  Any of you who can pledge $100 or more, please stand up’.
At that moment, the substitute organist played ‘The Star Spangled Banner.’
And that is how the substitute became the regular organist!

And I leave you with this thought:
The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion — to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendor.

Crazy Kids! Awesome Kids!

So, I went to the Kids Inn childcare this morning, and can you say ‘Awesome’?  The staff are great, they seem to love their work there.  And the kids, were just sweet.  I am hoping so much that I get a position here.  I will probably be doing after school hours care, which fits in well with me staying on at STAWA.

I guess I will have to let CentreLink know though.  I’ll have to find out exactly what I need to do to let them know of my change in circumstance.

Anyway, maybe this might be my forte?  Working in childcare?  We’ll see.

It’s Late!

Yeah, it’s past ten and I’m still on the net.  My brother has friends over…and they’re playing world cup soccer on the XBox, or something.

Anyway, since my last blog, I’ve been slogging away.  Here’s a few things.

  1.  I didn’t get that fundraising job.  And Dad says he never wants me to go and apply for that sort of job, anyway.  Thanks for telling me after the fact…
  2. I might get a job at a childcare, though.  After hours.
  3. The weekend at Northam was fun…and COLD.  It was MINUS 0.5 degrees Celcisus on the Saturday morning!
  4. I’m still working at STAWA
  5. I’m still writing…

And that’s about it.

Oh, ‘Nightmare’ comes out on the 30th of July on itunes here in Australia [Avenged Sevenfold’s new album for anyone who doesn’t know.]  I bought A Beautiful Exchange [Hillsong’s new album] off itunes.

And that’s about it.  So, yes.

“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.

New Music, New Thoughts, New work?

So, it’s been a while since I last blogged.  Several things have happened.  So, here’s my list.

  1. I’ve been searching for more jobs.  Got an interview tomorrow with a fundraising organisation.  I’m a little nervous, but that’s normal right?  Guess all I can do is be prepared and then leave the rest in God’s hands.
  2. Simple Plan have performed a brand new song…which initially I thought was ordinary.  Nothing wrong with that, right?  Well, you’d think I’d murdered somebody when I stated my opinion on what I felt about the song and title.  Granted, I can’t stop listening to the song, now.  But, some people just don’t get that people are allowed to change their mind.  I still think the title is corny.  And, it’s not the best song they’ve ever written.  I guess part of me is just jaded because I’ve been waiting so long for new music from them.
  3. The Gathering is coming up, but unfortunately I can only go on Wednesday night [the women’s night Awake My Soul] because I have to go East for work on Friday.  Our Senior Pastor will be getting up on Friday night and talking about the past year.  He’s been recovering from being sick.
  4. I’ll be going to Muresk to help out at the annual STAWA Conference.  Should be good.  Driving up with a work colleague.  You know who you are 😉
  5. My friend had her birthday party early [her b’day is actually in July], because she’s trekking overseas not really trekking…].  We had a fun night.

So, that’s what’s been going on with me lately.  And now I leave you with a thought.

Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

Long Weekend!

It’s the long weekend, Foundation Day here in WA [Queen’s Birthday in the eastern states].  This is the weekend where if we’d still been in Townsville, we would have gone up north [yes, north] to get our little slice of winter.  We used to go to the Lake Eacham Hotel in Yungaburra, had an open fire and fun trivia and family night.  But, here…we don’t have to go anywhere for winter.  I’d rather fly back to Townsville and have winter there…

Anyway, before I go on about the weekend, I’ve managed to accomplish several things in the past few days.  Here’s the list.

  1. Been to CentreLink to register for some form of benefit [we’ll see how that pans out.]
  2. Been to CFI to register on Job Services Australia.
  3. Worked.
  4. Almost completed my MYOB course, two weeks left.
  5. Procrastinated a bit…

So, that’s it for now.  Back to the long weekend.

At Church the new them for June is Faith: Expectant.  I’m expecting good things to come.  The previous theme, Going Public.  Not Ashamed, is my new life theme.  I even have the [long-sleeved] T-Shirt to prove it!

Next blog I’ll probably post a photo.  Anyway, I have to go home now.
