Long Weekend!

It’s the long weekend, Foundation Day here in WA [Queen’s Birthday in the eastern states].  This is the weekend where if we’d still been in Townsville, we would have gone up north [yes, north] to get our little slice of winter.  We used to go to the Lake Eacham Hotel in Yungaburra, had an open fire and fun trivia and family night.  But, here…we don’t have to go anywhere for winter.  I’d rather fly back to Townsville and have winter there…

Anyway, before I go on about the weekend, I’ve managed to accomplish several things in the past few days.  Here’s the list.

  1. Been to CentreLink to register for some form of benefit [we’ll see how that pans out.]
  2. Been to CFI to register on Job Services Australia.
  3. Worked.
  4. Almost completed my MYOB course, two weeks left.
  5. Procrastinated a bit…

So, that’s it for now.  Back to the long weekend.

At Church the new them for June is Faith: Expectant.  I’m expecting good things to come.  The previous theme, Going Public.  Not Ashamed, is my new life theme.  I even have the [long-sleeved] T-Shirt to prove it!

Next blog I’ll probably post a photo.  Anyway, I have to go home now.

Life Kicking In

So, I’m back on the job hunt again.  Going to CentreLink either tomorrow or Thursday, [calling them tomorrow] and hoping to see if they can help me out with looking for suitable work.  To be honest, though, I don’t want teaching work.  I know, it seems a waste the fact I’ve done a science and a teaching degree, but I think I just did the teaching thing because I thought it was a good idea at the time.

I’ve noticed on Seek that there are some teaching positions available for next trm and fourth term, but I’m just not passionate about it anymore.  Speaking of which I have to get in conact with my CSP, because I’m slack, and I need to talk to him, fill him in with where I’m at right now.

Part of me, really doesn’t like talking on the phone though…silly, eh?  Oh well.

Anyways, I’m off to sleep now.  [Is anyways a grammatically correct way of spelling that?  Well it’s not wning anything…is it?  or something.]

Right.  Leaving it here.  Bye.  Night.  Or Day wherever you people reading this [if you’re reading this] are.

Morning Rant

There are some things that I know I’m right about.  There are some things I think I know I’m right about.  But, maybe I’m not so right?  But some things just burn my tyres.  So here’s a list.

Scientific Theories, Laws and Hypotheses
This particular set of definitions, is something I need to set out, because of a heated discussion I had with somebody online some months ago.  Yes, I know I should just let it go…but, I can’t.  So…here it is:

    1. Laws: This is a statement of fact meant to describe, in concise terms, an action or set of actions. It is generally accepted to be true and universal, and can sometimes be expressed in terms of a single mathematical equation.
    2. Hypothesis: This is an educated guess based upon observation. It is a rational explanation of a single event or phenomenon based upon what is observed, but which has not been proved. Most hypotheses can be supported or refuted by experimentation or continued observation.
    3. Theory: A theory is more like a scientific law than a hypothesis. A theory is an explanation of a set of related observations or events based upon proven hypotheses and verified multiple times by detached groups of researchers. One scientist cannot create a theory; he can only create a hypothesis.      In general, both a scientific theory and a scientific law are accepted to be true by the scientific community as a whole.

Religion vs Science

These things can go hand in hand.  Science doesn’t necessarily negate the probability of there being a God, or supernatural forces.  There are many things that Science cannot explain.  And may not ever be able to explain.  And, you know what?  That’s okay.

People who are too stubborn.

I might be one of those, so maybe it’s a case of dealing with my own stubbornness.  But, it still annoys me no end.  Which kind of leads me to the fact that I’m just putting this out there, I’m not going to be ashamed of what I know.  Nor am I going to be ashamed of what I believe.

I’m a Christian, and I’m proud of it.  Make of that, what you will.

Mind Your Own Business…and other things

So, this Gift shop thing is looking worse, and worse.  Tonight, we’re going to figure out with my accountant whether it’s worth going ahead, based upon the figures Dad and I worked on yesterday.  It doesn’t look promising.  Best case scenario, I’d only end up with something like $7 K a year for six days of fulltime work.  Not fun.

Of course, I am lucky because I do have casual work.  It may be administration work, a far cry from what I trained to do.  But, my colleagues are very nice, and the working environment is not overly stressful.

I understand if I do get the business it will be hard work, and stressful to a point.  But, it’s not worth putting myself through all the stress if I’m getting less money a year than I could get by going on the Dole.

Of course, this doesn’t negate the MYOB course I am doing.  It will come in handy even if it is to enable me to find some work in the meantime.  There are always other opportunities to be had.  I feel a little sorry for the current business owners though.  They wish to sell because one of them wishes to return to his home overseas.  So, if this falls through, they will have to go through the whole process again.  We/my parents will only have lost a small amount of money compared to that.

Still, quite a bit of money has been put into this on our side.  Particularly with fees to the solicitor…but that’s another whole story altogether…

Because I need somewhere to vent.

Okay, so tell me something?  Do they think my family is made of money?  $63,000 a year for rent?  I don’t think that’s -ing fair!  Sorry, Terry P.  I had to kind of steal your way of cursing, ’cause I know it’s rude to do otherwise, and it sounds pretty cool anyway.  [No copyright infringement intended…]  Anyway, for real.  Why would you do that to us?  We want to keep the business going, and we want to make things work.  I also WANT to be able to live…I mean on the $56 K…I would’ve gotten $40 K to live and repay the bank loan…but, $63K, that’s just ridiculous.

Oh, well.  Not much I can do about it.  Just pray, and figure out the finances.

Anyway, this is my first blog here, and probably won’t be my last.  Look out for more….hopefully, not such a ranting one.
